and the heavens opened and it rained...

Scorched Land - Ushering in the Presence of God - Rain a Plenty

Glory to God it rained!

Ministry Report from Maasai Land
by Leonard Heatherly

I had seen the Drought of 2005, but my senses had dulled to the awful devastation. Returning to Maasai Land in January 2009, I saw again what months of high temperatures and no rain can do - not a single green blade of grass for miles.

On Friday January 9th, I arrived in Imaroro, the bush country home of Josiah Muesha, Bishop of the Maasai. A ministry conference had already been planned for that day involving about 20 regional ministers. After the planned activities were completed, I addressed the conference.

The staff made by Pastor Ned Asbury of Caryville, Tennessee was presented to the Tribal Elders, Samuel and Moses. (These men are believed to be 2 of the first 3 Maasai men to become Christian, and they are cornerstones of Bishop Muesha's ministry.) Noting the serpent like shape of the center section of the staff, I reminded the ministers of Moses raising a brass serpent in the wilderness, and that all who looked upon it were healed. I explained that the staff represented the presence of God with the Maasai, similar to the Ark with all the children of Israel. The staff was left in Bishop Muesha's safe keeping.

I spoke that there was no lack of rain in the Kingdom - that is God's Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. God has plenty of water - ocean's full. The problem was not a lack of rain. After praying over the issue of drought in Maasai Land, I had become assured by the Spirit of God: If there is no lack of rain, then what was holding it back.

An evil Prince of Darkness rules over Eastern Africa, and he is afraid of the black man's spiritual nature. Once attuned to the Holy Spirit and their place in God destiny, the Maasai are a most serious threat to his evil kingdom. So, the Prince has been holding back the rain trying to starve out the fledgling churches of the Maasai.

I asked the ministers to join in prayer not for rain but to bind the strongman, so that rain would again return to Maasai Land. When the Maasai pray, it is an awesome sight of sincerity and intensity, so rare in the rest of the world. This day was no exception.

Seeing vividly the scene of Elijah asking Ahab to go look for rain seven times, I proclaimed for the next 7 days, "It will rain next Friday!"

At 9:45 AM on Friday January 16th it began to rain. Stopping occasionaly for a short while, it continued for 3 days. The first day there were bugs - bugs everywhere. The second day sprouts of grass broke the harden soil. And so the Glory of God was made manifest!
